Pet Warehouse Store Manager

Job Descriptions:

A. Purpose:
The primary duty of a Pet Warehouse store manager is to manage all aspects of the day-to-day operations of a Pet Warehouse store. The Store Manager is expected to Store managers report to the General Manager (GM) at the corporate office. Primary duties include the following:

  • Recruiting and assistance in hiring of new associates
  • Training of store associates
  • Counseling and discipline of store associates with direction from GM
  • Documentation of all disciplinary action, counseling and termination
  • Communicate all personnel matters in a timely manner to the GM and Human Resources Manager (HR)
  • Job performance reviews and evaluations
  • Timely and accurate reporting of all payroll hours per associate and total payroll hours to HR each week

D. Store Operations:
  • Training and enforcement of all policies and procedures
  • Complete daily paperwork
  • Ensure general store cleanliness
  • Direct monthly store-level meetings
  • Review daily store sales performance, profit and average ticket
  • Review weekly store sales performance compared to goals
  • Review weekly purchases and compare to budgets
  • Review monthly sales, expenses and profits and ensure that they are within acceptable budgeted ranges
  • Complete daily paperwork
  • Cover overages and shortages with each cashier
  • Review daily price overrides
  • Ensure compliance with all IT policies and procedures
  • Manage completion of all standard weekly work processes and any special projects
  • Manage receipt, stocking and signage for all merchandise
  • Ensure proper product rotation is being done
  • Ensure that all outdated merchandise is pulled and documented

E. Merchandising and promotions:
  • Direct the periodic rotation of end-caps
  • Implement new product sets
  • Manage all store promotions
  • Ensure that all products are priced throughout store
  • Ensure store is fully stocked by:
    • Ordering merchandise in a timely fashion according to a schedule set by the corporate office within budget guidelines provided by the corporate office
    • Notify GM of customer requests
    • Walk the store daily and record any over/under-stocked positions
  • Communicate any pricing, labeling, cost, product or UPC issues to the GM
  • Assist the GM in implementation of programs and functions to achieve increased sales and profit
  • Evaluate effectiveness of advertising and report to GM

F. Safety and Security:

  • Regularly review and report any changes in security system cameras to the Operations Manager
  • Regularly review and report any changes in security access to the GM
    • Alarm code loss or compromise
    • Safe combination loss or compromise
    • Problem with alarm settings
    • Keys lost or stolen
    • Any other incident that may compromise the security of the store
  • Ensure store is operated safely and report and correct any safety issues to the GM
  • Ensure compliance with all safety procedures
  • Follow guidance fo the Safety Committee
  • Maintain adequate first-aid supplies and notify HR of any needs
  • Reporting of all accidents to HR

G. Live Goods Care:

  • Ensure Safety and health of all live goods
  • Ensure that all live goods are in secure, safe and proper habitats
  • Communicate any health concerns regarding live goods to the GM
  • Ensure Compliance with all policies and procedure related to animal husbandry

H. Secondary Duties:

Store Managers will receive a number communications relating to rent, utilities, billing, etc. Although some of this may not be under the direct control of the store manager, any information outside the scope of the primary duties of the store manager that affects the store or Pet Warehouse, Incorporated or General Pet, Incorporated must be communicated and/or forwarded to the GM in a timely manner.

I. Physical Requirements:

Store managers are required to perform manual labor that includes (but is not limited to) setting up shelving, unloading product, stocking product and assisting the groomer with the handling of animals. This requires that the store manager be able to lift not less than 40 lbs. and lift 20 lbs. over head. Some activities will further require that the manager be able to squat, bend, twist and reach repetitively. Managers are expected to be on the sales floor and must be able to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time in excess of 6 hours. Store managers will be in the presence of animals and animal bedding, which in some cases may cause an allergic reaction. It is a condition of employment that the manager be able to spend prolong periods in these conditions and that they be able to clean and handle the animals at Pet Warehouse.

Pet Warehouse Assistant Manager

A. Purpose:

The primary focus of a Pet Warehouse Assistant Manager is to provide excellent customer service. The other main duties include animal care and general store operations.

B. Responsibilities:

  • Customer Service
  • Opening and closing store
  • Cash handling
  • Daily deposits and change orders
  • Managing and motivating cashiers and directing store associates
  • Handling customer complaints
  • Responsible for the care of the pets and fish
  • Weekends and nights required
  • Must have open schedule
  • Must have own transportation

C. Education:
High School diploma or equivalency preferred.

D. Work Experience:
Retail experience in a professional environment. Prior management experience preferred.

E. Physical Requirements:
Bending, twisting, reaching, lifting and lifting above head. Standing for long periods of time. This position requires lifting of up to 50lbs. Pet Warehouse requires the use of a back belt when lifting 20lbs or more.

Pet Warehouse Sales Associate

The primary focus of a Pet Warehouse Sales associate is to provide excellent customer service. The other main duties include animal care and general store cleaning and maintenance.

B. Responsibilities:

  • Customer Service
  • Feeding and care of animals
  • Cash register operations
  • General cleaning of store
  • General merchandising of store
  • Cleaning of livestock habitats
  • Loading and unloading of freight
  • Answering of telephone and intercom announcements
  • Cash handling
  • Handling of reptiles (including snakes), fish, small animal, birds, arachnids, insects, worms and other animals
  • Clocking in and out
  • Reports to manager on duty

C. Education:
High School diploma or equivalency preferred.

D. Work Experience:
Retail experience or animal care in a professional environment. Cash handling a plus.
